Aarsleff appoints new STEQ manager
Foundation contractors Aarsleff has appointed Bob Speakman, as Safety, Training, Environment and Quality Manager (STEQ).
Bob’s primary role will be ensuring the Company’s already good safety culture is built upon and continues to be second-nature, as well as improving and integrating Aarsleff’s existing management systems.
Although boasting a varied career, including 20-years coal mining in Yorkshire, Bob joins Aarsleff directly from Cementation Skanska, where he spent the last 9 years as Senior Health & Safety Advisor.
During his time at Skanska, he actively contributed to increase reporting levels and drive down accident statistics. He also established, with others, the Piling Operative Apprenticeship Scheme and helped maintain accreditations against ISO 9001, 14001, OHSAS 1801 standard, Achilles and Link Up.
Bob is currently Chairman of the Safety and Training Forum for the Federation of Piling Specialist (FPS) and representative for the industry and the company at both UK and European level with the European Federation of Foundation Contractors (EFFC).
Speaking about the challenges of his new role Bob said, “I am always looking to understand the practical aspects of all operations and implications on the day-to-day life of the people at the coalface, so to speak. I am hoping to make a positive contribution by acting to ensure that Aarsleff’s already enviable reputation within the industry, and equally good safety record, is maintained and improved upon where possible.”
Chris Primett, Managing Director of Aarsleff added: “Bob will be a great addition to the Aarsleff team. He not only has a tremendous wealth and depth of knowledge and experience of STEQ operations but also has the vision and drive to ensure standards are met and maintained.”
