Aberdeen Market and BHS building could be purchased by council
Councillors in Aberdeen are to consider a report which recommends that the former BHS building on Union Street and indoor market are purchased by the local authority and redeveloped.
A report set to go before the growth and resources committee on Tuesday recommends the council purchase both buildings - and demolishing the market to redevelop both into retail, food, drink and leisure facilities.
New concept pictures show that the development would contain “continued retail use at Union Street level and a mix of retail, food and drink and leisure use at Hadden Street level”.
“Removal of vehicular traffic from the section of Union Street between Bridge Street and the Castlegate,” the report adds.
Plans to demolish the market building were conditionally approved last year.
