Family-owned construction firm A.C. Whyte has commemorated its 50th anniversary by securing £8 million of new business from six contracts in just the last eight weeks.

Originally founded in 1973 as A.C. Whyte (Slaters & Plasterers), the company has established itself in the retrofit construction sector. Over the past five decades, the business has grown to have a £20m turnover and a dedicated workforce of over 100 professionals, operating across 26 Scottish local authority regions.

Bob Phin, owner of A.C. Whyte, reflected: “A.C. Whyte is a family business, and our values reflect this. Indeed, over the last decade, the company has exhibited remarkable growth, refurbishing thousands of homes while remaining true to its core values.”

The recent new business growth means A.C. Whyte is emerging stronger than before, despite challenges. These include recent supply chain disruptions as well as the Covid pandemic.

As well as its robust growth plans, A.C. Whyte’s commitment to sustainability is also at the heart of the business. This is evident in its workforce training model, aligning with net-zero goals, and fostering innovation.

This year, it has further strengthened its board by welcoming directors, Dawn Neilson, and Marion Forbes, in addition to its already accomplished board members. Each of these appointments brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and expertise to their respective roles.

Jennifer Phin, managing director, said: “Our people are the essence of A.C. Whyte and an integral part of the resounding success we embody as a business today.

“As we celebrate our 50th birthday this November, we thank our team, subcontractors, clients, and partners for their commitment. Their support has played a pivotal role in our journey, and we look forward to the next 50 years.”
