ACE Winches appoints Recycl8 facilities revamp

Lifting, pulling and deploying solutions provider ACE Winches has appointed sustainable technology firm Recycl8 to renew and repair their workshop facilities yard in Turriff.

This involved a 30m³ pour of a floor slab at the busy state-of-the-art facilities, which are powered by onshore wind.

The Aberdeenshire-based firm was selected for the project due to its commitment to environmental sustainability - a key priority for ACE Winches as it continually seeks to adopt solutions to protect the natural environment. The yard sees the maintenance and testing of the company’s extensive rental fleet of deck machinery equipment. The repairs to the yard surface are to ensure safe and efficient future operations, as ACE Winches sees specialist equipment sent to over 50 countries around the world.

Recycl8 partnered with construction materials specialist Breedon Group to supply its patented solution of sustainable, lower carbon R8 Mix concrete for the project, which is the latest in a series of successful pours across the housing, industrial, marine and port sectors.

Established in 1992, ACE Winches was acquired by international subsea equipment rental and solutions specialist Ashtead Technology last year. The firm supports the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair and decommissioning of offshore energy infrastructure.

Keith Anderson, general manager of ACE Winches, said: “Our Turriff facility has been powered by a local onshore wind turbine for nearly a decade, a symbol of not just intent but the action we take to ensure sustainable operations. In this instance we were pleased to partner with Recycl8 for this pour, helping us to further reduce our carbon footprint.”

Mark Gillespie, CEO of Recycl8, added: “We are thrilled to have successfully completed this pour with ACE Winches, once again in collaboration with Breedon Group.

“ACE Winches demonstrated their clear commitment to mitigating their impact on the environment, by appointing us for this project. Not only does our R8 Mix have a significantly lower embodied carbon than traditional mixes, but it also breathes new life to materials that would otherwise be discarded, reducing the reliance on virgin quarried materials.”
