ACHA completes specialist new homes in Dunoon
Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA) has just completed four new homes for special needs in Dunoon.
The site at Eton Avenue in the centre of Dunoon previously housed buildings which had reached the end of their useful life, and were demolished by the Association leaving the site available for the four new homes.
The £1.46 million development was delivered through a funding partnership between the Scottish Government, Argyll and Bute Council and ACHA, and the properties were built by local builder, John Brown (Strone) Ltd.
The new development comprises a two-bedroom bungalow, a three-bedroom bungalow which is suitable for wheelchair use, and 2 x four-bedroom detached houses. Three of the properties were designed to meet the particular needs of families on the housing waiting list, and all the homes have been designed to the Scottish Government’s greener standard which includes the provision of air source heat pumps, providing a higher standard of energy efficiency.
Paul Galbraith, contract director at John Brown (Strone) Ltd, said: “John Brown (Strone) Ltd are proud to have recently completed the construction of the four new build properties at Eton Avenue for Argyll Community Housing Association.
“These, high quality, adapted homes are very energy efficient through the use of renewable technologies, meet housing for varying needs standards and have achieved ‘Secured by Design’ accreditation which is testament to our skilled workforce. More importantly, these new homes will have such a positive and in some cases life-changing impact on the day-to-day lives of tenants fortunate enough to be allocated these properties.”
One of the new residents, Mrs MacPherson, added: “I couldn’t be happier with my new home. I was like a prisoner in my last house. My quality of life here will be so much better.”
