Administrators to oversee closure of broadband builder Glenevin
Livingston-based engineering firm Glenevin Limited and its subsidiary GCL Hire Limited have been placed into administration with the loss of 45 jobs.
Founded in 2013, the firm specialised in multi-utility infrastructure and was involved in the construction of full fibre broadband networks for various firms such as Openreach and CityFibre.
Glenevin was forced to close due to a material deterioration in market conditions leading to funding being withdrawn for many of the pipeline contracts, ultimately leaving the company unviable.
Gareth Harris and Paul Dounis of RSM UK Restructuring Advisory LLP were appointed joint administrators and took over on 6 September 2024.
All 45 employees have been made redundant. The company had an annual turnover of around £40 million in 2022.
Mr Harris, partner at RSM and joint administrator, said: “This has been a very fast-moving situation but due to market circumstances outside their control, and without a viable solution the directors have had no choice but to shut the business.
“Employees have been paid up to the end of the month, but sadly all have been made redundant on appointment.”
