The giant eight-wheel tipper arrived as part of a presentation on jobs in the construction industry during the school’s careers week.

The excited children were given a chance to climb inside the vehicle after hearing a talk from Lynsey Breen, head of land acquisitions at AC Land Regeneration, part of the Advance Construction Group of Companies, one of Scotland’s largest groundworks and civil engineering companies.

Lynsey shared her experiences of the industry with 145 pupils in classes from Primary 4-7 and launched a competition to design a safety poster, which will be rolled out to other schools across West Dunbartonshire. The winning entry will be displayed on AC Land Regeneration’s nearby proposed development on the site of the former Sisters of Notre Dame Chapel which is being developed in partnership with Miller Homes.

She said: “There are so many different jobs in construction from groundworkers and bricklayers to civil engineers and architects and I am passionate about sharing my experiences in the industry.

“It was fantastic to see how enthusiastic the children were and they had lots of great questions, I was amazed at how much they already knew.”

Deputy head Gregor Morrison added: “It was a great morning! The children absolutely loved the talks and the visit from the tipper brought great excitement with all the children having a wee shot sitting in the cabin. Everyone had a lot of fun while learning about construction.

“They are looking forward to working on their posters, I suspect competition for the prize will be pretty tough!”
