Airdrie council developments deliver quality homes for residents
Two newly completed council housing developments in Airdrie are providing an additional 56 homes for residents in the town.
Housing convener Michael McPake visited the two new sites in the Petersburn area to mark the official completion of the projects and to welcome new tenants to their homes. These developments mark another significant milestone in North Lanarkshire Council’s ambitious housing programme.
Glenacre Drive, completed by McTaggart Construction, features 16 homes, including a mix of amenity bungalows, wheelchair-accessible houses and cottage flats. This project cost £3.6 million, with £1.3m in Scottish Government funding.
Petersburn Road, completed earlier this month, offers 40 homes, including a variety of accessible and family-friendly options. This £9m development was supported by Scottish Government funding of £3.4m.
Councillor McPake explained: ” As part of our plan to deliver 5,000 new homes by 2035, these projects are an example of our vision for the future.
“These developments highlight our commitment to our regenerating communities and providing modern, accessible housing for our residents.
“Projects like this are more than just homes, they provide the foundation for regeneration, which will help our communities thrive, boost the local economy and help create new jobs.”
Janice Russell, managing director with McTaggart Construction, added:” We are delighted to partner with North Lanarkshire Council to deliver 16 high quality homes at Glenacre Drive and 40 at Charles Quadrant on schedule. As specialist builders of affordable housing, we passionately believe developments like these positively change lives and communities.
“McTaggart Construction’s commitment to supporting social and economic growth for NLC residents is supported by our wider community benefit initiatives which supported the creation of six new permanent jobs, including roles for two young people with additional support needs, as well as providing a new outdoor classroom for St Dominics primary school next door.”
