akp to deliver fit out of UWS new Eco Campus buildings
The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) has appointed akp to undertake Cat-B enhancement works and Cat-C fit out work at its three Eco Campus buildings at Hamilton International Park.
The developer has undertaken the shell and core and Cat-A works together with the construction of a new street atrium to link the three buildings, with akp scheduled to commence in January 2018.
Practical completion for the overall works is expected in August 2018.
The Fit Out will include a comprehensive specialist joinery package which is to be distributed across the new Eco Campus encompassing all three buildings – Carrick, Dunlee and Edzell.
Ian McEwan, akp joint managing director, said: “We are delighted to be continuing the growth of our portfolio within the education sector and working on this prestigious project with the University, Doig + Smith, Haa Design and Hulley & Kirkwood.”
Ian Jamieson, Doig + Smith director, said: “We look forward to delivering another successful project with akp on this exciting new campus for University of West of Scotland.”
The University of the West of Scotland’s new £110 million campus in Lanarkshire will open in September 2018 and is located on the outskirts of Hamilton, just two miles away from their existing campus. It will be one of the UK’s ‘greenest’ educational environments. Carbon neutral buildings with sustainable features including a windfarm generating 100% renewable power and rainwater harvesting.
The new campus will be a game-changer for higher education in Scotland, creating one of the country’s most dynamic and exciting learning environment, allowing UWS to grow the educational opportunities for students internationally, across the UK, Lanarkshire and the wider central belt.
