Aldi submits plans for £4.6m new Glasgow store
Aldi has submitted plans for a new £4.6 million store in the Broomhouse area of Glasgow.
The development will create up to 35 local jobs within the store, along with new employment during construction and within the Aldi supply chain.
The proposed new store at Boghall Road, Broomhouse, will also benefit shoppers in Baillieston and the surrounding area and will deliver a 1,666 sqm gross/1,140 sqm net foodstore, including staff welfare and storage areas. It will also include 95 parking bays, including 76 standard, eight parent and child, seven accessible and four electric vehicle spaces.
The submission to Glasgow City Council follows a number of consultations carried out by the discount retailer to collate feedback from the local community. Aldi wrote to around 2,300 residents across Broomhouse to inform them about the proposals, with in-person consultations held on 17 August and 3 September at the Mailcoach Restaurant and Broomhouse Community Hall respectively.
A virtual event was also held on 22 August via Aldi’s consultation website, allowing members of the public to view the proposals, ask questions and provide feedback to the project team in real time.
An Aldi spokesperson said: “We are pleased to be bringing forward our proposals for a new store in Broomhouse.
“Our engagement with the local community has shown there is strong demand for a discount food store in Broomhouse and the surrounding area, with 90% of respondents writing to confirm their support for our proposals.
“An Aldi store would greatly benefit the area, bringing significant investment along with 35 new jobs, whilst supporting other local businesses through our investment in the Scottish food and drink sector.
“We are looking forward to continuing our engagement with the local community over the coming weeks.”
The consultation website and dedicated Facebook page will remain open until the planning process is concluded.
If approved, it is anticipated that the new store will open and welcome shoppers by late 2025.
