Alpha Scotland hosts distinguished British designer
International designer, John Small, is in Glasgow today for an event organised by furniture and design specialists, Alpha Scotland.
He will tell a group of architects about his career to date, as well as his role in designing a major Learning and Innovation Centre in Munich for Steelcase, a world leader in workplace furniture.
During John’s 25 years working for the award-winning and globally recognised architect, Norman Foster, he was involved in establishing the furniture and product design department for his practice, Foster + Partners.
His impressive international portfolio includes being part of the design team for the new German Parliament building, the Reichstag, which opened in 1998, Hong Kong Airport and the interiors of the NetJets fleet of the Dassault Falcon 7X jets to name just a few projects.
He was also involved in the design of Glasgow’s SECC.
Latterly John has been Head of Design for Steelcase for whom Alpha Scotland are the only Scottish distributors.
Speaking ahead of his appearance, he said: “The changes in how we work have been revolutionary and I am passionate about helping to create environments that reflect that and enable people to work better. Steelcase is at the forefront of research around collaboration and innovation and, as a result, visionary product development.
“I am looking forward to coming back to Glasgow and sharing my design experience and philosophy.
Paul Black, chief executive of The Alpha Group, added: “We are privileged to have John speak at our new Glasgow office. We are all about informing and equipping people to create the very best workplaces and I know John will offer some fascinating insights.”
