Ambitious Glenrothes town centre redevelopment underway
A major new town centre retail development representing a total investment of approximately £10 million is underway in Glenrothes town centre, following conclusion of a legal agreement between the developers and Fife Council earlier this year.
The authority said the redevelopment, which will transform and regenerate the North Street site, is set to create over 150 new local jobs.
Atmore Properties Limited and contractor Easy Living Developments are working in partnership on the development, and work is well underway to extend and refurbish a former office property at South Street that is expected to be completed by November.
This will allow CISWO to relocate from their existing facilities at North Street, and provide CISWO with much enhanced facilities for their members, as well as allow the club to continue to provide a range of community facilities.
The redevelopment of the existing site occupied by CISWO at North Street is set to undergo a major transformation.
This redevelopment will be anchored by a Marks and Spencer Food Hall, as well as a range of restaurants, including Tony Macaroni and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Work is set to commence immediately following the relocation of CISWO, and is expected to be completed by late 2018.
Coouncillor. Altany Craik, convener - economy, tourism, strategic planning & transportation committee, Fife Council, said: “This is the largest town centre investment in Fife in over 20 years, and excellent news for local people, communities and businesses. The Council is committed to supporting the on-going regeneration of Glenrothes town centre and looks forward to seeing the completion of this exciting development.”
Councillor Fiona Grant, convener - Glenrothes area committee, said: “I am delighted that, after decades of uncertainty, work has started to regenerate Glenrothes Town Centre. Many thanks to all who have worked over the years to bring the town to this point. I look forward to the new facilities opening.”
