The B-listed site at 1 Annfield Place, just off Duke Street, dates back to 1750 and housed the Royal Mail hub until it closed in 2016.
Developer Mandalay North Ltd had previously been granted planning permission subject to conditions to demolish an adjacent garage and create two new properties.
The firm is now returned with amended proposals.
