And finally… Amazon buildings fire staff

A new report has revealed that online retail giant Amazon uses a stringent set of metrics built into its vast dispatch hubs to not only track the performance of workers in the warehouses but to automatically fire them if they fail to meet certain standards.
A report from The Verge has revealed that at one facility in the US state of Baltimore, approximately 300 full-time workers were fired for inefficiency between 2017 and 2018 — a figure that represents 10 percent of the factory’s overall workforce.
According to documents cited by The Verge, such firings can take place without the involvement of a supervisor.
Instead, Amazon uses a tool called ‘time-off task’ which can not only determine how long employees take between scanning packages or other duties, but it can also send automated warnings to workers and is authorized to terminate their employment if they under perform.
