And finally… Architects envision self-sufficient city on Mars by 2054
A self-sufficient and sustainable city of one million people could be built on Mars by 2054, according to a conceptual design by architecture studio Abiboo.
The Nüwa project is part of an exhaustive scientific work for a competition by The Mars Society and fully developed by the SONet network, an international team of scientists and academics.
In a presentation to the society convention, the general concepts and the economic model were outlined alongside a film with images of the architectural-urban project.
Following The Mars Society’s requirements, the settlement on the Red Planet has been planned as self-sufficient, depending very little on importing materials from Earth.
In preparing this proposal, Abiboo worked for months together with more than 35 professionals from different specialties to create housing, social and cultural spaces for the inhabitants of Nüwa.
