Satellite photos show unprecedented construction work along the demilitarised zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea, the BBC reports.

In one seven-kilometre stretch, barriers have been erected in at least three sections since November 2023.

Dr Uk Yang, military and defence expert at Seoul’s Asan Institute for Policy Studies, said: “My personal assessment is that this is the first time they’ve ever built a barrier in the sense of separating places from each other.”
