And finally… Builder ‘told to vacate Tube seat by man because he has a better job’
A builder has claimed that he was ordered to give up his seat for another commuter because they had a better job than him.
Jamie Loveday, 19, said he was on a Victoria line train at around 7.20pm on Wednesday when a man got into the carriage at Green Park station.
Mr Loveday told the Standard that the man, who was well-dressed and in his forties, then told him to vacate his seat because he was the finance manager of an upmarket hotel.
“I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and said ‘excuse me’ before saying no I wasn’t going to give up my seat,” Mr Loveday said.
“Everyone’s faces around me dropped.
“He muttered ‘this is outrageous’ and stormed off down the carriage before asking the same question to a Chinese girl who moved for him.
“He probably thought because he earns more money than me he could intimidate me. I was in my dusty clothes and he was in a Calvin Klein suit.”
The 19-year-old, who commutes to London from Luton, said he has been looked down on before while in the capital.
Last week, he dropped his tools on the Tube and an elderly man came to his aid while men in suits “walked over him”.
