The construction housing and property heat of Business Fours took place at Dundonald Links yesterday, the host of this year’s Scottish Open venue.

In decent conditions play got under way with a shotgun start and the format for the competition meant that companies had the chance to interact with other people in their sector as well as raise funds for tournament charity partner Beatson Cancer Charity. The heat was supported by industry partners Scottish Construction Now, Scottish Property Federation and Scottish Housing News.

They raffle supported by SEC Glasgow and McDonald Cardrona Hotel and raised over £550 for the charity and corporate partnerships fundraiser, Dawn Ferguson, was on hand to tell participants about the fantastic work they are involved in.

In the individual prizes Tam O’Neil from EWI installers AC Whyte & Co came closest to the pin on the 6th hole seeing off competition from Mike Niven from the Simple Energy Scotland team, who shot an impressive 43 stableford points, the best individual score of the day. Over at the 11th, Carey Group’s Ryan Coll went closest to the pin on his way to 39 points.

The first fourball of the day conjured up the longest drive at hole 14 with Douglas Sibbald of Cappers Group from the Scottish Construction Now team splitting the fairway. The more trivial longest putt on the 18th hole came from the same group with Gordon Raymond from Weslo Housing Management finding the hole from furthest out.

With four spots up for grabs at the National final the Construction, Housing & Property heat was the last on the West Coast and competition was fierce.

The AC Whyte & Co team captained by Tam O’Neil beat their colleagues by one shot to qualify for the final at St Andrews Fairmont in May, helped by solid scores from Aidan Moore, Alex Neil and Steven McNellis to give them bragging rights back in the office.

The team from consulting engineers Dougall Baillie Associates qualified in 3rd position with captain Norman Maclean leading his team out with 42 stableford points.

The scoring was even tighter to decide the overall winners with two teams from South Ayrshire Council tied equally with Simple Energy Scotland on a fantastic score of 151 points for the four members.

It was however Simple Energy Scotland who were crowned the Construction Housing and Property heat champions by virtue of a count back on the back nine.

Captain John Wishart was on hand to collect the prize and will wear the Royal & Awesome tartan troos with pride at the National Finals.

Commendable fine individual scoring from players from Arch Henderson, with both Chris Fernand and Kevin Fettes scoring over 40 points and Dennis Briggs from tournament partners Scottish Construction Now also got over the magic 40 mark.

The action continues on April 26th when Business Fours returns to Craigielaw golf course for the final qualifying heat which will see the Technology & IT sector come together.
