And finally… Construction worker plays saxophone in effort to save historic theatre

A construction worker from Seattle has found a unique method of showcasing his efforts to save a historic venue in the city from demolition.

Developers have announced plans to bring down the Showbox Theater and build a 44-story high-rise apartment building.

But local construction worker Landon Jackson, who has seen nearly two dozen shows at the Showbox, isn’t letting the 80-year-old venue go without a fight.

Jackson is using his lunch break to play his saxophone from high up on the corner of the nearby construction site where he works.

The musician is urging people down below to sign an online petition that hopes to get the Showbox designated as a historic landmark.

“This hits. That’s a beacon of Seattle music history and we got to have our history. Keep our history,” Jackson told Kiro 7 news.

“I’ve seen a lot of my friends play there, I’ve seen a lot of greats play there, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden,” he said.

“If we keep taking away our historical monuments, Jackson added, “Pretty soon we’re not going to have anything left.”

Jackson says he plans to play the sax to save the Showbox every Saturday during his lunch break.
