And finally… line in the sand
Saudi Arabia is set to “scale down” many of its hugely ambitious construction projects, including the $500 billion NEOM linear city, according to reports.
There have already been rumours that “The Line”, the bizarre city project that would have housed 1.5 million people in a 170-kilometre straight line, is being downsized.
Now the BBC reports that 13 other “giga projects” worth trillions of dollars are likely to be reassessed in light of low oil prices.
They include the Qiddiya City entertainment project on the outskirts of Riyadh, resort islands on the Red Sea and other tourist-oriented developments.
An unnamed advisor on the projects said: “The decision will be based on multiple factors. But there is no doubt that there will be a recalibration. Some projects will proceed as planned, but some might get delayed or scaled down.”
