And finally… Magic carpets
Unwanted carpets are to be transformed into state-of-the-art horse riding surfaces under a new initiative from Angus Council.
The carpets and underlay will be destined for a renewed life – shredded, baled and bound for use as high-end equestrian surface fibre. This provides a stable surface for horses and reduces strain and injury risk at arenas and training enclosures.
The local authority is introducing a new recycling service from November 23 that will see skips placed at Arbroath and Carnoustie recycling centres for carpet and underlay.
Initially a pilot project, if successful it is hoped the scheme can be rolled out to other centres.
