A man who stole two bags of cement in Nigeria was given seven strokes of the cane in open court as his punishment.
The sentence was handed down to Naziti Ibrahim by a Gudu Upper Area Court in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Thursday, June 11, 2015.
The prosecutor in the case, Israel Nongo, had told the court that Ibrahim stole the cement valued at N4, 000, from one Hitman Eboh of Good Homes Estate, Abuja, on May 19.
News24Nigeria reports that Nongo said that Ibrahim had gone to a site where construction work was ongoing and stole the two bags of cement.
The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko recommended the sentenced after Ibrahim pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for leniency, promising to turn a new leaf.
