And finally… planning error leads to ‘hunchbacked’ bike path

A bike path in a small German municipality was unintentionally paved with several domes due to a planning error in the district office.

And finally... planning error leads to ‘hunchbacked’ bike path

Five small rises in the pavement can be seen on the section of the path currently under construction between the Netto branch and the Amperbrücke, towards the Burghausen district of Freising.

During the planning, “it was noticed too late” that the path, which was intended to be deeper than the road parallel, would have made access to the adjacent fields more difficult, said district office spokesman Robert Stangl. “This would have made the access roads too steep.”

Since the fields are laid out perpendicular to the road and also have different owners, it was clear there had to be opportunities to cross the cycle path in several places with agricultural implements and without too great a gradient.

Mayor Uwe Gerlsbeck said: “There could have been better solutions.”

He added: “Mistakes are there to be made. We are now happy to have the bike path we have been trying to achieve for ten years.”
