And finally… Police dress as construction workers to crack down on road violations
Police officers have dressed as highway construction workers to catch people committing work-zone violations
State officers in Onondaga County have carried out the operation for two weeks, giving out 102 tickets during that time, New York State Police have revealed.
Police called the scheme Operation Hardhat and plan on continuing the initiative, they said.
Troopers ticketed drivers 62 times for speeding, 16 times for seat belt violations, three times for using a cell phone while driving, work zone intrusion, once for driving while intoxicated and 20 other violations and infractions, police said. They also inspected seven tractor trailers, including two that were taken out of use, according to police.
Similar initiatives netted 112 tickets in Rochester and 136 tickets in Albany, police said.
Police say the goal of the initiative was to catch motorists who violate the state’s Move Over Law, which applies to emergency and work vehicles.
