And finally… poultry in motion
A giant chicken-shaped building standing almost 35 metres tall, 12.13 metres wide, and 28.17 metres long has entered the Guinness World Records as the largest building of its kind in the world.
Forming part of the Campuestohan Highland Resort in the Philippines, the landmark features 15 rooms with modern amenities like air conditioning, large TVs, and hot showers, offering visitors a unique place to relax. The unique design of the building was conceived by Ricardo Cano Gwapo Tan, who was inspired by the region’s thriving gamefowl industry.
After six months of planning and construction beginning in June 2023, the building was completed by September 2024, earning the Guinness World Records title. In addition to the giant chicken, the resort also boasts a wave pool, swimming pools, and an array of themed attractions, making it a major new destination for tourists.
Tan’s journey started in 2010, when he and his wife, Nita, bought the land for the resort. The location, though lacking decent roads and electricity, offered mesmerizing mountain views. What began as a quiet family project is now a massive tourist attraction, with the chicken-shaped building as its centrepiece.
The ambitious project was led by Ricardo Cano Gwapo Tan, who was inspired by the region’s rich gamefowl industry, which employs millions of people in the Philippines. Tan explained that a rooster embodies calm, strength, and a commanding presence—qualities that reflect the attitude of the local people. “I wanted to create something with a wow factor that would leave a lasting impression,” he shared with Guinness World Records.
The design and planning of the giant chicken took six months to complete, and construction began on June 10, 2023. The project team had to take into account the frequent storms and typhoons in the region, which made ensuring the building’s stability crucial. Despite the challenges, the chicken-shaped building was completed by September 8, 2024, earning the Guinness World Records title for the world’s largest chicken-shaped building.
