And finally… Ski slope apartment block planned in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana may be in line for an apartment block crowned with nothing less than a ski slope – just in case you want a little bit of winter sports when you get home after work.

As reported by CNN, with its very cold and often snowy winters, Astana certainly has a ski-friendly climate, but most slopes are a long drive away from the city.

The 21-storey apartment block Slalom House, though, will have a 326m artificial slope descending from its roof.

Plans have been submitted, and the project is currently awaiting approval from city officials.

If successful, the building would be the first of its kind in the world according to Mr Mataibekov, formerly Astana’s chief architect.

He added: “It would be an instant hit for ski and snowboard lovers.”
