The superstructure of what will be the world’s highest bridge has been completed this week in China and a new timelapse video of work on the project to date has been released.

The Beipanjiang Bridge in the province of Guizhou is 565 meters above the river it crosses and 1,341m (4,399ft) in length and will link Hangzhou City in Zhejiang province to Ruili City in Yunnan province.

The footage shows clouds swirling around the super structure which has taken three years to build and involved over 1,000 engineers and technicians and cost 1Bn yuan, around £113m.

It is hoped the bridge will save road users four hours on their journeys.

The record breaking bridge will replace Millau Viaduct in Millau, France as the world’s highest bridge, which at its highest point stands at 343m (1,125 ft) above its base.

Certainly the engineers featured on the video, must have a head for heights working as such high altitude.
