Dundee Football Club has released a video created by architect Holmes Miller that brings to life its proposed new stadium at Camperdown.

Holmes Miller has been working with the club, LJRH, and a wider team of consultants to shape up the proposals in parallel with a Planning Permission in Principle (PPiP) application.

As well as a new 12,500-capacity home for Dundee FC, the video shows that the City of Discovery is set to gain a new sustainable, all-electric multifunctional venue that can also be used for civic, entertainment, business and community events.

In line with FIFA’s Green Goals initiative and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, the stadium is designed to minimise embodied and operational carbon. Sustainable features include low-energy LED floodlights and screens, photovoltaic panels, natural ventilation, 100% recyclable seating, a ‘green roof’ to promote biodiversity, and rainwater re-harvesting. Stadium design features such as a safe standing tribune, beerhall and hi-res video screens will appeal to Dundee FC fans.

The stadium is part of a wider masterplan that is currently awaiting planning permission in principle, with a decision set to be made by Dundee City Council this autumn.

This also includes a 140-room lifestyle hotel with health and wellbeing facilities, a carbon-neutral residential development and a city crematorium, as well as the potential refurbishment and expansion of the existing Dundee ICE Arena.

Net zero design underpins the masterplan, which will promote the reduction of both embodied and operational carbon through building specification, construction and operation.

To encourage green travel, the new destination will be served by a dedicated e-bus terminal, cycle hub and EV charging facilities, all set within high-quality public realm. The use of soft landscaping and tree planting will ensure pedestrian and parking areas are attractive.

Ian Cooney, project director at Holmes Miller, said: “We know fans of Dundee FC will be excited to see their club’s new home come to life in this video, but it’s also a development that will benefit the wider community by providing a high-quality mixed-use destination. As well as football matches, this new net zero stadium will also be able to host a variety of civic, business, cultural, and concert events that the people of Dundee can enjoy.

“The masterplan is designed to encourage people to live locally and invest in their neighbourhood, as well as the wider city. The creation of a new public transport and cycle hub will also boost accessibility to what has historically been a car-led destination.”

Highly experienced in stadium design and with significant expertise in sustainability, Holmes Miller has a diverse portfolio of arena, stadium and leisure projects across the UK that spans four decades, including the recent vision for Hampden Park in Glasgow.

Robert Kennedy, director at Holmes Miller, added: “We’ve been designing stadia for the past four decades, and as society shifts towards sustainability in every sense of the word – environmental, economic and social – we’re seeing a growing demand for multi-use designs that are in use every day, not just on matchdays. This new video showcases our designs for a high-quality stadium for the whole community, which will undoubtedly bring long-lasting benefits to the city of Dundee, while reducing impact on the environment.”
