Diarmaid Lawlor

Mr Lawlor has worked at Architecture and Design Scotland since 2008 and has during this time led on key work including urbanism, place and a particular focus on the learning estate.

Speaking about the move, Jim MacDonald, chief executive of A&DS, said: “Diarmaid has been a fantastic ambassador for our organisation, bringing a deep knowledge and enthusiasm around the importance of considering places for people.

“With his move to Scottish Futures Trust we will continue to work with him in his new role as we work to implement the Scottish Government’s Place Principle. On behalf of the staff and board I want to thank Diarmaid for his contribution to our work and wish him all the very best in his new role.”

Mr Lawlor is an urbanist, with a multi-disciplinary background. Trained as a landscape architect he has worked extensively in practice across the UK. His role at A&DS has involved a specific focus on learning spaces and spatial strategies and he has an interest in the role of design in fostering collaborative approaches.

He’s been an important contributor to wider Place policy and strategy and the Place Principle over the last few years and is already collaborating with us around a number of activities.”
