Argyll and Bute Council calls for views on Mid Argyll path proposals

Argyll and Bute Council is inviting people in Mid Argyll to give their views on detailed design proposals for an improved walking, wheeling and cycling route between the Lochgilphead Front Green and the Crinan Canal.

A public consultation event is taking place in Lochgilphead Baptist Church on 4 March between 5.30pm and 8.30pm and people are urged to go along, look at the detailed design, and talk to the design team.

The event is being led by the newly appointed design team and follows on from the concept design that was presented to the public in 2023.

Anyone unable to attend the event can find out more and give their views via an online consultation that will run from 4 March until 15 April. The consultation webpage will be live from 4pm on 4 March.

The council’s policy lead for roads and transport, Councillor John Armour, said: “We are committed to improving accessibility for everyone and addressing the challenges of climate change through sustainable travel options.

“For many years we have been asking residents of Mid Argyll about the barriers they face walking, wheeling and cycling in Lochgilphead and Ardrishaig. This information has allowed the council to obtain funding from partner organisations, including SUSTRANS, Transport Scotland and HITRANS, to try and find solutions to help remove or overcome these barriers.

“The proposed route between Lochgilphead Front Green and the Crinan Canal offers a safe alternative to car travel and takes in the stunning scenery that we have on our doorstep. Thank you to everyone who took part in our recent consultations – your feedback has been paramount in reaching this next stage.”

The project is funded by Transport Scotland.
