Ayr shopping centre to make way for supported accommodation

The Arran Mall in Ayr is set to be demolished to make way for supported accomodation on the site.
South Ayrshire Council approved the plans earlier this week, and now a feasibility study is underway to examine plans to turn the site in the town’s Alloway Street into a ‘living well village’.
The village will include a residential re-enablement, care experienced accommodation, family centre and day centre along with a range of specialist housing.
The feasibility study says that a plan to use the former Hourstons building for South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership is also a viable option, the Ayrshire Post reports.
Planning officers at the council have recommended the reallocation of £11.26m for the redevelopment, alongside efforts to secure further funding via government and sale of surplus council properties.
