Ayrshire primary pupils received early Christmas present from local homebuilder
Hundreds of primary pupils across North Ayrshire received an early Christmas present in the form of a new children’s book, following a donation from homebuilder Persimmon West Scotland.
‘Cones and Building Homes’ was commissioned by Persimmon Homes and written by author Chris Madeley. The book is part of a series in which cones discover the world around them. The book aims to raise awareness of health and safety among primary pupils, as well as showcasing the construction sector and the world of work.
Persimmon West Scotland land director Craig Moore was joined by North Ayrshire Council depute leader, Cllr Shaun Macauley to present copies of the book to staff and students in Woodlands Primary School, Irvine.
The books have been delivered to all primary schools across North Ayrshire – from Kilwinning to Kilbirnie.
Shaun Macauley, depute leader of North Ayrshire Council and cabinet member for education and young people, said: “We welcome this initiative from Persimmon Homes which not only encourages our young people to read but helps share positive and important safety messages.
“The generous donation will be a valuable addition to our school libraries and may even help spark an interest in a career in construction for some of our young people.”
Craig Moore, Persimmon West Scotland land director, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting primary schools across North Ayrshire with this donation and it was great to meet some of the local pupils that will benefit from these books.
“The books are a fun way for young people to learn about the world of construction and the importance of safety. Hopefully they will also inspire some of the pupils to consider a career in construction in the future.
“We want to leave a positive legacy in the areas we operate in, and I want to thank North Ayrshire Council for helping us ensure these books reach as many local schools as possible.”
