Bancon Construction move into new sectors with £25m worth of contracts
Aberdeenshire-based Bancon Construction has secured a batch of new contracts valued at more than £25 million, paving the way for continued growth into 2021.
The new business will see the company working in Aberdeen, Dundee, Nairn and Inverness, following Bancon’s first contract win in the Highland capital two years ago, as well as community outreach work in Montrose.
Bancon Construction has secured a £4m contract for the long-awaited Montrose Playhouse Project.
The work will transform a former swimming pool into a multi-million-pound community three-screen cinema, a café bar, community areas and retail spaces.
Bancon will be working with the local community to provide training and work experience opportunities, as well as committing to outreach work with local schools, providing safety and careers talks, competitions and a site visit.
The work is expected to take 56 weeks to complete.
In Inverness, Bancon’s newest £9m contract is for a housing development at Stratton Farm, on the outskirts of the city.
Bancon Construction will build 52 new houses and flats with associated roads, footpaths, drainage and external services. Work started in August and is scheduled to take just over a year.
Some of the properties are for mid-market rent and will be delivered by the Highland Council on behalf of Highland Housing Alliance.
The company’s work scope continues to increase in the Highlands, as preferred bidder for the construction of 12 flats and office space in Nairn, where work will start early in 2021.
Bancon has also been awarded a £5.5m one-year contract by Abertay Housing Association, to build 43 high-quality affordable houses in Charleston, Dundee.
The development includes a mix of detached and semi-detached houses and flats, together with all associated services and external roadworks, landscaping and fencing.
The company has further secured a £4m contract with Titan Aberdeen Investments Ltd, creating a new industrial development in the Altens area of the city.
The work, which is now underway, includes the design and construction of a new office together with the refurbishment of an existing warehouse and its external areas.
The scope of works includes the refurbishment, recladding and extension of an existing steel-framed industrial building to form two semi-detached industrial units.
External site works include the formation of a new road access, parking, service yards and associated new retaining walls, landscaping and drainage.
Gavin Currie, managing director of Bancon Construction, said: “The UK construction industry has been hit hard by the global COVID-19 pandemic so we are particularly pleased to be able to move forward into 2021 with these significant new business wins.
“Having moved into Inverness two years ago, we are delighted to be continuing our work in the Highlands as well as Aberdeen, Dundee and Montrose, where we are proud to have been selected to work on an important and exciting project for the local community.
“Our team will be creating much-anticipated facilities as well as training and work experience for local people and school pupils. We are looking forward to working with our clients to deliver each of these key projects over the coming year or so.”
