Barratt Redrow maintains build targets amid forward sales dip

Barratt Redrow has today reported a 10.1% year-on-year decline in forward sales as of March 30, 2025, with 10,245 homes on order compared to 11,402 the previous year.

Despite this drop, the UK’s largest housebuilder reaffirmed its annual target to build between 16,800 and 17,200 homes.

The decrease in forward sales reflects broader economic challenges, including a global tariff war, elevated borrowing costs, inflation, and the recent end of UK property tax breaks. However, the private home order book saw a 3.5% decrease in volume but a 3.3% increase in value, attributed to inflation and changes in the sales mix.

Formed through a £2.5 billion merger last year, Barratt Redrow continues to integrate operations, anticipating at least £100 million in cost synergies - £10m ahead of initial targets. The company is also pursuing strategic partnerships, such as the MADE Partnership with Homes England and Lloyds Banking Group, aiming to develop over 10,000 homes.

Looking ahead, Barratt Redrow remains optimistic due to the UK government’s £2bn pledge to construct up to 18,000 affordable homes. While the company expects costs to remain stable this year, it acknowledges that inflation projections for 2026 introduce uncertainty.

David Thomas, chief executive of Barratt Redrow, said the firm was “also focused on unlocking the full potential of our enhanced land position”.

He added: “This has been further supported by the government’s proposed planning reforms.

“The fundamentals for our industry remain strong, with a clear need for new homes across all tenures and a national focus on accelerating delivery.

“We have the scale, industry partnerships and unrivalled credentials in quality, service and sustainability required to capture the opportunities ahead and deliver growth.”
