Bathgate school children help welcome new residents
Taylor Wimpey East Scotland teamed up with Primary 4 pupils at Windyknowe Primary School to create a ‘Welcome Home’ card for new residents at its Sibbalds Wynd development in Bathgate.
The homebuilder challenged the children to create a colourful design, and Alice in Primary 4M’s winning entry has been turned into a card given to homeowners when they move into their new homes.
Alice received a £50 voucher. Because the standard of entries was so impressive, the judges chose Millie and Russell, both from Primary 4B, as the two runner-up designs, each winning a £25 voucher.
Windyknowe Primary School received a £200 donation as a thank-you for getting involved. The children were recently invited to the development to be awarded prizes and receive framed copies of their impressive designs.
Commenting on the children’s participation in the competition, Mr John Cloherty, head teacher, said: “Our Primary 4 children enjoyed taking part in this challenge from Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, and they produced a range of creative designs that would be used to welcome our new neighbours. This project has been a great opportunity for our school to play a part in the new and growing community nearby.”
Kirsty McGill, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “We would like to thank every Primary 4 pupil who got involved with our ‘Welcome Home’ card competition. All the entries were fantastic, and we struggled to pick a winner. In the end, we decided that Alice’s design would act as the perfect colourful greeting.
“We were so impressed with the children’s designs that we chose two more designs to award prizes too, and we understand the children had great fun taking part in our unique challenge - well done to everyone!”
Earlier this year, the Taylor Wimpey East Scotland team also took the opportunity to remind all of the children at Windyknowe Primary never to play near a construction site with its fun and engaging health and safety talk. As part of the visit, the children were asked to design a health and safety poster to remind children of the dangers of a construction site – a selection of the most impressive designs have been created into a banner that will be displayed at the development.
