Best new public and commercial buildings honoured at Scottish Property Awards
The best new public and commercial buildings in Scotland have been revealed at the property industry’s largest awards celebration held in Edinburgh last week.
The Scottish Property Awards, the independent competition which honours achievements in the real estate sector, announced the winners in front of 650 guests at the EICC.
Property Company of the Year, the ultimate award of the night, sponsored by Royal Bank of Scotland was presented to Miller Developments. The judging panel praised the company for a landmark year with major large-scale developments totalling over 1.5msq.ft. of commercial space.
Three Universities collected awards for their property development work this year. Stirling University’s Campus Central collected two awards for its major public area project designed and delivered by Page\Park Architects and Robertson, collecting the Architectural Excellence Award (Public Use) and the ESG Refurbishment of the Year. The judges praised the high quality work repurposed the campus in a dramatic transformation of the civic space.
The University of Glasgow won Development of the Year (public buildings) for the Mazumdar Shaw Advanced Research Centre and Heriot-Watt University was commended for its new robotics centre, the National Robotarium.
In large-scale commercial development, Knight Property Group collected an award for its Belgrave Logistics Park in Bellshill and also in the West, Urban Union won Regeneration for its continued long-term work at Lauriston. Drum Property collected the award for Build to Rent development of the Year for its Solasta Riverside Project in Glasgow.
The much-anticipated Deal of the Year category, sponsored by PMP, was awarded to QMile Group at Haymarket and the complex lease arrangement to Edinburgh City Council for a new Hyatt Centric Hotel. The 350-bed hotel will bring significant economic impact to the area and much improve the strength of the EICC as an international event destination. The ultimate individual award, the Business Leadership Award, was presented to Stuart Heslop, former Managing Director of real estate finance at Royal Bank of Scotland. Sponsored and presented by Faithful + Gould, Heslop announced his retirement from the bank after 35 years of work in the sector and is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the UK for real estate finance. In his final year in the role, he led a team of 15 in 4 cities with a lending book of over £4bn and had approved £866m of new investment spent directly into real estate development.
