Blairgowrie-based charity benefits from Persimmon donation

Staff and young people at Wellmeadow House receive their Community Champions cheque

Staff and volunteers at Strathmore Centre for Youth Development (SCYD) are celebrating after banking a major donation from Perth-based homebuilder Persimmon North Scotland.

SCYD is based at Wellmeadow House in Blairgowrie and provides social and educational opportunities to support young people to achieve their potential. Wellmeadow House provides a safe place where young people can build positive relationships, develop skills and achieve accredited volunteering awards.

The charity also organises external trips and activities for young people and facilitates opportunities for community inclusion, where young people volunteer their time to support local community markets, sports events and other activities.

Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme supports charities and good causes in the areas where they operate and has seen more than £360,000 donated across Scotland in the last five years. Applications can be made by visiting here.

James MacKay, Persimmon North Scotland managing director, said: “SCYD is at the heart of Blairgowrie and the opportunities they provide make a real difference to local young people.

“The staff and volunteers there are passionate about supporting the local community and I’m delighted we’re able to support their work with this donation through our Community Champions scheme. I look forward to supporting more valuable local organisations like this in the future.”

Kimberley Tosh, Strathmore Centre for Youth Development manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a donation from Persimmon. Donations like this enable us to continue the important work we do supporting local young people. From all young people, volunteers and staff at SCYD, we want to say thank you for the generous support.”
