BrewDog’s expansion plans for Aberdeenshire recycling hub
BrewDog has submitted plans to expand its brewery on the site of an Aberdeenshire recycling centre.
Under the £5 million plans, the craft beer firm would build a new warehouse at the Balmacassie Household Waste and Recycling Centre, near Ellon. The recycling centre would then be relocated to a separate area within the existing industrial estate.
The deal would see BrewDog, whose brewery is currently located next to the recycling centre, cover any costs incurred by Aberdeenshire Council in relocating the facilities.
Should the plans be approved by planners, the council would hand over the land to the company in January next year.
Meanwhile, the adjacent recycling bulking plant, which was only completed in July last year, may also be relocated.
BrewDog projected that construction of the warehouse would then begin at the start of 2016 to complement the new facilities.
Jim Gifford, Leader of Aberdeenshire Council has praised the plans, calling the opportunity ‘exciting’ for the local area.
He said: “There is no doubt this is an exciting and innovative company and provides the basis for increased employment and exports from Aberdeenshire.
“As such, the council is happy to work with the business to assist its expansion plans, particularly given that BrewDog would cover the cost of relocation for the waste and recycling facilities.”
Aberdeenshire Council’s property service is about to submit a planning application for the replacement recycling centre to assist BrewDog’s plans.
