Build Fife programme successfully empowers local construction sector

Fife Council, in collaboration with Hub East Central Scotland, Bam Construction and a selection of other Tier 1 contractors, is proud to announce the successful conclusion of the inaugural Build Fife Programme.

The initiative, aimed at supporting the growth ambitions of local businesses in the construction and associated sectors, marks a significant milestone in the economic development of Fife.

Twelve Fife businesses including Ductform HFE, Macari Hill Civil Engineering, SK/AD, Hamilton Air Conditioning Services Ltd, Adamson Sliding Doors, Blueprint Recruitment Ltd, Fyneside Developments Ltd, Raeburn Training, Logan Bruce Ltd, Advanced Traditional Screeding Ltd, Landfall Scaffolding ltd and Napier Construction Services participated in the programme to enhance capabilities, foster vital relationships and unlock growth opportunities within the construction industry.

Running for 8 weeks in February and March 2024, participants had the invaluable opportunity to learn from experts, engage with Tier 1 Contractors, and build essential peer connections over the course of eight weekly sessions.

The comprehensive programme covered a wide range of topics essential for business success in the construction sector, including Leadership & Management, Business Strategy, Marketing & Social Media, Tendering & Procurement, and Ongoing Business Support. Furthermore, participants gained valuable insights into Business Finance & Employment Law Fundamentals, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of the business landscape.

George Hamilton from Air Conditioning Refrigeration & Ventilation Systems specialists, Hamilton Air Conditioning Services Ltd, said: “I began reaping the rewards of the Build Fife programme almost immediately. Following the Leadership & Management and Business Strategy workshops, I refined my sales pitch and as a result, have been awarded a £140k contract with a new customer.”

The culmination of the programme was marked by a final event, where participants showcased their new found knowledge and skills through presentations. The event also served as a platform to recognise outstanding achievements with awards, further motivating participants to continue their journey of growth and excellence.

The inaugural programme winner was Kirkcaldy-based Health and Safety training provider Raeburn Training.

Sarah Raeburn from the firm said: “We were delighted to be part of the Build Fife programme and have benefited greatly. The programme offered a great opportunity to refine our business strategy and work with our team to consider opportunities for growth. We have set our strategic objectives for the year and identified gaps in terms of resources and current skillset.

“As a result, we have recruited a new client sales advisor to expand the sales team and are working to upskill the remaining team in key areas to build capability further. Now these key foundations are in place, we are ready to achieve business growth and continue building relationships with Tier 1 contractors. Following the programme, we have been awarded a training contract with Fife Council Building Services team. Thank you for the opportunity to participate.”

Speaking about the successful completion of the programme, Alan Paul, head of property services at Fife Council, expressed delight at witnessing the tangible impact of the Build Fife Programme.

He said: “The Build Fife Programme has not only equipped local businesses with the tools and knowledge to thrive but has also fostered a strong sense of community within the construction sector in Fife. We are immensely proud of all the participants and look forward to seeing their continued success and contribution to the local economy.

“Fife Council is committed to supporting initiatives like the Build Fife Programme, which plays a crucial role in driving economic growth and prosperity within Fife. As we celebrate the successful completion of this programme, we remain dedicated to creating a thriving business environment in Fife for years to come.”
