Building a career in construction at Home Fix Scotland
Repairs and maintenance contractor Home Fix Scotland (HFS) is creating new opportunities for people in the construction industry.
The Inverclyde company currently employs a wide range of school leavers, students and job seekers in roles from HR, health and safety, marketing to site management and quantity surveying.
Just last year, the organisation took on three modern apprenticeships and five young apprentices.
Now, staff from the repairs and maintenance firm are being encouraged to further their career in construction through education.
Among the first to be chosen is Franki Forster, an administration assistant at HFS who has recently enrolled onto an HNC Construction Management course at the City of Glasgow College.
Having worked in the built environment and construction sector for seven years, Franki is confident that the HNC will allow her to develop the theoretical, practical and management skills necessary to meet the demands of a dynamic, rapidly changing industry.
She explained: “While I have enjoyed my time working within the admin team, I am looking forward to a new challenge within HFS.
“Studying an HNC in Construction Management will get me closer to my career goal of becoming a site or contracts manager.
“I’m very grateful to the senior staff here for showing faith in me. I know they want me to be successful and to achieve my goals here and that means a great deal.”
John Williams, head of operations at Home Fix Scotland, said: “Franki is very determined to work hard and carve out a successful career and we look forward to supporting her development through this process.
“We’re always committed to investing in our people and will continue to offer a wide range of career opportunities for our workforce.”
