Flexenergy Pipe Technology Specified for NHS Orkney Hospital
A new £64m hospital and healthcare facility being built on Orkney will include latest technology pipework that is sustainable and highly energy efficient.
Glenrothes-based pipe specialists Flexenegy provided 200 metres of pre-insulated pipe to carry heating and boosted cold water between the hospital’s newly-built energy centre and the main building.
The Flexalen pipe is highly thermal-efficient, fully recyclable and, being made of polybutylene, will not corrode, unlike traditional pipe materials.
The hospital has been designed to put people first and make a positive contribution to the environment, local community and economy; once complete, island residents will no longer have to travel outside of Orkney for routine care.
Approval for hotel and flats at capital’s King’s Stables Road
Plans for the last piece of the puzzle at King’s Stables Road in Edinburgh have been given the green light after Scottish Government officials approved an appeal from the developers.
Peveril Securities and Campus Development Management’s application to build eight new flats, a hotel and an arts facility in the Old Town conservation area has been granted planing permission.
The revised application scaled back original plans for 16 flats to eight mews residences, boosting the number of hotel rooms by 16.
Glasgow Science Centre to get £2.9m makeover
Glasgow Science Centre is to receive funding to improve existing facilities and exhibition spaces, and to develop a community based learning programme.
£2.9 million will go towards transforming the exterior of the centre by the Clyde at its Pacific Quay location.
Yotel to open new hotel in Glasgow
Hotel chain Yotel has announced plans to open a 256-room hotel in Glasgow’s city centre, creating more than 100 new jobs.
It will be the chain’s second hotel in Scotland and fifth in the UK.
The new hotel, which is expected to open in November next year, will be located at the Westergate building on Argyle Street, near Glasgow’s Central Station.
Shettleston HA plans to build 40 new homes
Shettleston Housing Association has revelead plans to increase its supply of affordable homes with construction of 40 new build properties on the site of St Mark’s Primary School at Muiryfauld Drive, Glasgow.
A mix of cottage flats, semi-detached homes, townhouses and flats are proposed by architects Anderson Bell Christie as part of a £3.8m regeneration package for the brownfield site, which has lain empty since the school was demolished in 2012.
