Boxing champion celebrates Scottish title with employer City Building

Scottish Super Bantamweight Champion Joe Ham swapped his boxing gloves for joinery tools when he returned to his day job with construction firm City Building.

Joe won his first Scottish title in the Scottish Featherweight Championships at the SSE on 15 April, defeating Scott McCormack in a 10-round fight. A time-served joiner, he celebrated his victory with employer and sponsor City Building at Queenslie Training Centre, where he learned his trade as an apprentice.

City Building gave Joe seven weeks off work to focus on his gruelling training schedule, which involved daily 5.30am runs, strength and conditioning sessions, and sparring.

Joe said: “I’m very grateful for the incredible support I’ve had from Citybuilding over the years. I couldn’t have done this without them and they’ve been with me every step of the journey, since I started my apprenticeship with them nearly five years ago.”

Joe is currently working on the site of the new Broomhill Primary School, which is due to be completed in 2018.

At a time of continued growth, pitched roofing manufacturer Russell Roof Tiles has boosted its sales team with various promotions.

Russells was originally founded in Lochmaben as The Annadale Tile Company by John Gibson, when he purchased the 11-acre Halleaths (Lochmaben near Lockerbie) site over 50 years ago.

Four promotions follow a hugely successful 12 months, where continued sales growth has gone hand-in-hand with an expansion of Russells product range. This portfolio includes an extensive range of tiles and fixings ideally suitable for all market sectors and sympathetic to native roofing materials and styles across the UK.

Due to the continued growth of the business, the sales team has been re-structured further in the core areas of Scotland and the Midlands and South Yorkshire. Scott Summers has joined the sales management team for Scotland and Ross Hayward for Midlands and South Yorkshire.

Rhodri Jones and Gordon McKinnon are further evidence of the company’s training development programme and investment in talented people. Having completed their two-year internal training, Rhodri now has full responsibility of the South West & South Wales area, with Gordon now taking full responsibility of the North East and Cumbria.
