  • Shortlist hat-trick for Ochilview Developments

Ochilview Developments, the Falkirk-based, independent house building business behind several successful developments in Larbert, is celebrating three shortlistings in the prestigious Herald Property Awards for Scotland 2021.

Building Briefs - August 26th

Two of its shortlistings are in the Best Family Home category, with a three-bedroom detached villa nominated at The Potteries in Larbert, together with a three-bedroom villa at The View, Edward Avenue, also in Larbert.

Ochilview Developments, which has made a name for its brand with unique new build homes exhibiting a clean, contemporary, Scandinavian influenced look, delivered in partnership with its architects, Arka, has also been shortlisted for Best Apartment, for its two-bedroom apartment at The Potteries.

A development consisting of three and four-bedroom detached villas, together with luxury two-bedroom apartments, The Potteries is so named as it occupies the site of the former Pottery of renowned local artist, Barbara Davidson, whilst The View, with the Ochil Hills in the distance, sees three striking detached villas occupy the site of what was formerly an old garage.

In what is its fifth development to market, Ochilview Developments is currently building luxury apartments and penthouses at No1 Old Bellsdyke Road, just off the M9/M876 motorways, and a short distance from Forth Valley Hospital in Larbert.

  • South Lanarkshire Council agrees additional funding for local facilities and Mausoleum

Additional South Lanarkshire Council investments will boost a well-loved local landmark, sports facilities and primary schools.

Councillors agreed yesterday to adjust the area’s capital budget so that additional repairs can be undertaken at Hamilton Mausoleum after initial work to lead and guttering showed the need for further stonework repairs to stop water getting into the building.

Extra money is also being added to the ongoing project to refurbish the Tom Craig Centre Hall, in Law. With work well underway to upgrade the sports pavilion and pitches, the extra money will now also allow the replacement of part of the roof.

The LED and PV projects will be funded from the Central Energy Efficiency Fund, which is used to pay for projects that save money by saving energy, allowing the costs to be recouped in future years.

The additions to the capital programme were agreed at the executive committee on Wednesday and take the amount being invested locally in 2021-22 through the programme to a total of £85.415 million.

  • Local views sought as DGHP plans to transform Dumfries estate

Ambitious plans to transform Dumfries and Galloway’s largest housing estate are moving forward with the views of the local community seen as a key factor.

Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership (DGHP) in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council will soon be seeking the views of the local community as plans move forward to transform the area of Lochside in Dumfries.

Under the Lochside Place Making proposals, which recently went before the council’s economy and resources committee, the area will be transformed working collaboratively with the needs and views of the local community as part of plans to provide new, high-quality, affordable homes.

Plans to provide a thriving, healthy and sustainable neighbourhood for people to live will focus on areas of low demand housing and provide house types that meet the needs and demands of local people.

The views of local residents and stakeholders will be fundamental to the proposals over the coming weeks and months.

The proposals fit with the Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP) with the aim to deliver high-quality, new and affordable housing.

The plans are part of the commitments made to customers following DGHP joining Wheatley Group in 2019. These commitments included making improvements to homes and services, upgrading existing homes and delivering hundreds of new homes across the region. In addition, the partnership aims to create 500 new jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities.
