Plans lodged for 12 flats in Dundee city centre

Developers behind plans to turn a former Dundee church into 12 flats have outlined their ambition to restore some of the building’s original features.

Garioch Development Company has applied to Dundee City Council for a renewal of planning permission to convert the former Dexters bar, in Castle Street, into apartments.

The B-listed building was originally used as St Paul’s Church during the early 19th century before the completion of St Paul’s Cathedral in 1855.

Built in 1812, the church was located on the first floor of the building with two shops underneath, which was then a requirement of the landowner.

As part of the proposals for flats, the developers want to restore the original large church windows, which were lost following a number of alterations to the building.

Other planned internal works include retaining original decorative features found on the windows and improvements to the ceiling.

Council invites Fife public to discuss housing development

Fife Council has invited the public to discuss proposals for a new housing development in the region.

Plans by Campion Homes involve building 23 council homes at Monksmoss, Ladybank.

The properties include four one-bed cottage flats, nine two-bed houses, six three-bed houses, two four-bed houses and two two-bed amenity bungalows.

If planning application is approved, the council intends to purchase the houses from Campion Homes to rent to council tenants.

The development would contribute towards the council’s affordable housing programme which aims to deliver 2,700 new homes by 2017.

The drop-in event is a chance for the public to view and comment on the proposals.

The exhibition will take place at Ladybank Library on 4 August between 4pm and 7pm.

Glasgow Caledonian University continue campus overhaul

Glasgow Caledonian University have submitted plans for over-cladding works to the Hamish Wood Building on its Cowcaddens Road campus; including replacement windows, enhanced insulation and remodeled external stairwells, Urban Realm reports.

Overseen by Honeyman Jack & Robertson, the work will see the existing concrete panel façade overclad with rainscreen cladding in three anodised silver grey colours.

Stairwells will be overlaid with charcoal rainscreen panels, extending to ground level where possible.

The work coincides with the university’s £30m Heart of the Campus development which seeks to create a new public front door for the institution around a courtyard garden space.
