Royal visit to Ross-shire mechanical and renewable contractors
HRH The Princess Royal concluded her visit to Ross-shire in the Highlands of Scotland with a visit to R&I Cruden Ltd, a family business that offers the complete package providing a full scope of heating systems specialising in renewable technologies.
Based in Muir of Ord Industrial Estate, R&I Cruden Ltd has 13 operatives and works all over the Highland area installing and servicing heating systems in both domestic and commercial properties. The firm has been operating since 2008, and have grown organically since managing director Ian Cruden started the business as a sole trader in 2005.
It also an outstanding track record with the apprenticeship programme winning two awards for “apprentice of the year” in the process.
Building work completed at Orchard View
Building work on Orchard View, the £7.3 million Inverclyde Adult and Older Peoples Continuing Care Hospital, has now been completed.
The contemporary healthcare facility, located in a prominent location on the Inverclyde Royal Hospital grounds, has now been handed over to Inverclyde Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP).
The facility is set to provide adult and older peoples’ continuing care mental health accommodation, with a particular focus on delivering a dementia friendly environment.
New hope for redevelopment of historic Dunfermline mill
Byzantian Developments has lodged a proposal of application notice with Fife Council for the historic Pilmuir Works in the heart of Dunfermline.
The Grade-A listed former linen mill has lain empty since the Duracord factory closed its doors in November 2005.
Now the company has put in the PAN notice to the local authority as it looks to erect new buildings and to convert, partially demolish, extend and refurbish existing buildings to create housing.
An alteration would also be made to the existing access road.
Hermitage Park to re-open to the public
Helensburgh’s Hermitage Park will re-open to the public today.
The park was closed in May due to an increase in work, to allow for the demolition of a number of structures and ensure public safety.
During the temporary closure specialist contractors have removed the old pavilion, making way for the new one and additional recreation spaces.
Consultation launched over future of Breich railway station
A consultation is underway to examine the future of Breich railway station in West Lothian.
The unmanned station is located on the Shotts route connecting Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central.
The railway line is currently undergoing modernisation as part of a programme of electrification. Network Rail estimates that £1.4 million could be saved if the Scottish Government opted to close the station rather than modernise it.
The 12-week consultation aims to gather residents’ views on the closure proposals.

North Lanarkshire swimming pool upgrade complete
Work on a £350,000 swimming pool refurbishment in North Lanarkshire is now complete.
The John Smith Pool facility was closed in October last year due to structural issues with the swimming pool.
Improvement work included new tiling, new flooring and heating, a pool tank render, new disabled changing area and shower room plus automatic doors, and a refurbishment of the gym with new exercise equipment.
Cambuslang water infrastructure upgrade to begin
Scottish Water is to begin a water infrastructure upgrade project in Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire.
The scheme will see improvements carried out to the water mains infrastructure in the Main Street area.
A section of Greenlees Road will be upgraded from its junction with Main Street to its junction with Busheyhill Street.
The two-day scheme will get underway on Saturday, 05 August. Local diversions will be in place.
Scottish Water said it apologises for any inconvenience and thanks affected road users in advance for their patience and understanding.
M8 resurfacing scheme to start
Work is to start on a £300,000 resurfacing project on the M8 motorway.
The two-phase scheme will address potholes and structural cracking on the M8 eastbound Junction 12 to 11 overnight. Work will take place overnight from 8pm to 6am on 28 – 29 July.
Further works will take place from 06 August and run overnight to the morning of Saturday, 12 August. Diversions will be in place.
