Building Briefs – June 16th

Main contractor Kier Construction said it will ensure staff returning to the site in Glasgow’s Pollok Country Park adhere to current public health and social distancing guidelines as the project moves into Stage 2 of Construction Scotland’s Restart Plan.

A spokesperson for Glasgow Life said: “Construction work on The Burrell Collection has been affected by the lockdown which prevented all but emergency work being carried out on the project.

“The site restarting marks another step towards completing work on the much loved building and preparing it to welcome millions of people in the coming generations. eGroup's Neil McDonald

eGroup is a provider of integrated commercial and industrial building solutions to the construction and energy sectors. Its expertise ranges from surface protection and specialist coatings to structural steel fabrication, wall/roof cladding and non-destructive testing (NDT).

In recent months, the firm’s fabrication division, eFab, has successfully achieved Building Information Modelling (BIM) Level 2 status from BSI Group for design, construction, and commissioning in accordance with ISO 19650:2018.

BIM involves the management of information through the whole lifecycle of a built asset – ranging from initial design to construction, maintenance and de-commissioning – using digital modelling.

Believed to be one of the first sub-contractors in Scotland to have been awarded this prestigious status, BIM allows eFab to better detect and diagnose problems, enhance collaboration and, ultimately, provide a better and more efficient service to clients.

Following rigorous assessment of company principles, practices and procedures, eFab has also been re-accredited by Lloyd’s Register for EN 1090, the European standards that regulate the fabrication and assembly of structural steel and aluminium.

As Execution Class 3 Fabricators, eFab can provide its services for all steel structures up to strength class S700 as well as structural components made of aluminium alloys.

Another significant milestone came in the form of eGroup having its ISO 9001:2015 accreditation renewed by Lloyd’s Register, with only one minor non-conformance raised and subsequently addressed.
