Kemnay AcademyAberdeenshire academy’s new extension marked with opening event

The Provost of Aberdeenshire Jill Webster officially opened Kemnay Academy’s new £14.3 million extension this week and also unveiled a plaque of the school badge created by a teacher at the school.

The space includes a social area, fully-equipped gymnasium as well as new music rooms and additional support for learning facilities. A biomass heating plant has also been installed adding to the Eco-School status the academy already holds.

 



Location confirmed for new West Lothian high school

West Lothian Council’s education executive has approved proposals to locate the new West Calder High School building on the site adjacent to Parkhead Primary School following a formal consultation.

Planning permission will be required to progress the new school project and that detailed issues of access to the site and the layout of the buildings and facilities within the site will be the subject of extensive consultation through that legislative process.

The Scottish Schools for the Future Funding requires that the new school is built by March 2018.



 

Payback time as new 3G pitch opens in Edinburgh

Money seized from criminals has helped fund a new 3G sports pitch for the local community in the west of Edinburgh.

The Cashback for Pitches programme provided £305,000 towards the cost of the new pitch at Malleny Park, Balerno which will be officially opened today.



The pitch, designed for both rugby and football, will primarily be used by Balerno High School, local primary schools, Currie RFC and Currie Star FC. Other sports clubs and activities will have access during the week through the Active Schools programme with community access at weekends and during the holidays.

 

New tennis courts developed in East Lothian

Five new tennis courts have been developed in East Lothian.



The courts will be officially opened on 6 June.

The council has developed facilities in Lewisvale Park, Musselburgh, Polson Park, Tranent, Longniddry Tennis Courts and Neilson Park, Haddington.

Councillor Tim Day said the council worked closely with “a number of key partners” including Tennis Scotland, sportscotland and local clubs over the last 12 months.

 

Carriageway to be resurfaced on B9037

Fife Council has announced it is carrying out carriageway resurfacing works on the B9037 starting this month.

The road will be resurfaced from its junction with the A985 to Valleyfield Avenue, High Valleyfield.

Works will start on 8 June and will last approximately three weeks.

The road will be closed from Monday to Friday between 7:30am to 4:30pm.

The closure will be carried out in three phases:

• A985 to Daly Gardens.

• Daly Gardens to Sharps Brae.

• Sharps Brae to Valleyfield Avenue.

Access for emergency services, residents and businesses will be maintained by the contractor during the working day.
