Completion of Alyth footbridges

The completion of new Alyth footbridges was officially marked yesterday.

Alyth Citizen of The Year Marie MacDonald had the honour on behalf of the local community and was joined by representatives from Perth and Kinross Council and the contractors involved with the project, NRS Group.

Dependent on weather conditions, the final works to apply the anti-skid coating to the ramps, steps and landings will take place later this week with the bridges open to the public on Friday or early next week. Further follow up works to the bridge decks has also been planned to take place in May.

Replacement of the two bridges was needed after the previous structures were destroyed during the Alyth Floods in July 2015. The council undertook an extensive community consultation regarding the replacement of the bridges and funding was approved for two bridges.

The works were sent out for tender and contractors NRS Group were appointed in October 2016. In order to avoid disruption to parking during the festive period, work commenced on the bridges in early January 2017. After construction of the foundations, both footbridges were successfully lifted into place on Sunday 26th February 2017.

Kincardine glimpses the future at launch of £40,000 charrette

IMG_0044Kincardine residents got a tantalising glimpse of how a specialist team of architects, planners and artists can help the town build a new future in the wake of the closure of Longannet Power Station.

The Coalfields Regeneration Trust won Scottish Government backing to hold a Charrette in the Fife town and put together a £40,000 funding package to engage architects Oliver Chapman and Associates to deliver the intensive community involvement exercise.

The team from Chapmans will spend the next two months on research before cramming six months work into an intensive four-day series of community planning consultations from June 7.

Over the four days the team will arrange walking tours of Kincardine for local people to help them see their surroundings through fresh eyes, run intensive feedback and discussion sessions to identify and refine ideas, and they will go into the local primary school to get pupils to write postcards from the future.
