- Talented student sees first-hand how her work became a reality
Emily Ritchie has seen first-hand how she is building a bright future for herself when she visited an impressive new structure which she helped design and build with Paisley-based construction company City Gate Construction (CGC).
Emily from Barrhead High School visited the Scottish Ambulance Service’s Linwood centre where CGC constructed a large steel canopy.
The structure is designed to protect the ambulance service’s vehicles from weather conditions when they and their dedicated staff are not out saving lives.
Civil Engineering student Emily played a key role in the whole process as part of her Foundation Apprenticeship from West College Scotland.
She spent one day a week with City Gate Construction as part of its ‘Bright Futures’ initiative to help young people find a pathway into rewarding careers.
Bright Futures is CGC’s initiative to support young people through apprenticeships and workplace learning.
Emily was involved in every aspect of the job which CGC won after a tendering process from the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Emily also worked on a range of construction-related jobs carried out by CGC for Renfrewshire Council.
*CGC acknowledged the willingness and co-operation of the Scottish Ambulance Service to allow photography of the completed structure at Linwood.
- Inverurie wedding venue unveils plans for growth with £1.8m funding
A wedding venue in Inverurie has secured a £1.8 million finance package from HSBC UK to invest in property updates.
Logie Country House, which was purchased by Tim and Stef Erbe in 2006, is located on a Scottish estate that dates back to the 1400s. The impressive castle, which sits in 130-acres of Aberdeenshire countryside, was badly damaged in a fire in 1974 and remained vacant until the Erbes acquired the property.
The funding from HSBC UK has enabled Tim and Stef to install a new heating system, make cosmetic updates to the property and increase awareness of the venue in Scotland through renewed marketing initiatives.
- Piece of Inverness history restored as iconic mosaic panels return to Academy Street
Historic mosaics have been returned to an Inverness building following restoration.
Originally made by Craven Dunnill Jackfield, the mosaics have been restored by the Mosaic Restoration Company and reinstalled at Rose Street Foundry – also known as the AI Welders buildings – at 96 Academy Street.
As part of the Inverness Townscape Heritage Project, the mosaics are considered an important element of Inverness’ industrial heritage and are being followed by full restoration of the building to bring it back into use.
Owner Cairngorm Taverns Limited was awarded a grant of £960,000 by the Inverness Townscape Heritage Project last year. This grant is a significant contribution towards the total cost of the restoration of 96 Academy Street which is being carried out in tandem to the mosaics being repaired in Shropshire.
