Global engineering and construction firm Burns & McDonnell has appointed Kyle Roberts as the new executive managing director for the UK, as it looks to expand its presence throughout the UK and Europe and drive growth in new sectors.
The creation of this new role will strengthen the firm’s European operations, as it implements a long-term growth strategy. Roberts will oversee all three of Burns & McDonnell’s UK offices in London, Birmingham, and Glasgow. He will focus on further fostering collaboration between the offices to support recruitment and client delivery.
Operating in the US for over 125 years, Burns & McDonnell opened its first European office in Birmingham in 2017. Since then, the UK team has grown rapidly, to more than 200 people. The Burns & McDonnell practice in the UK started with the delivery of electrical transmission, distribution, and mission critical market sectors, and is continually looking to expand its project delivery offerings to include other markets throughout the Burns & McDonnell portfolio.
Kyle Roberts, executive managing director for the UK at Burns & McDonnell, said: “The UK engineering and construction sector is an exciting place to invest, and I’m eager to build on the strong foundation established since our 2017 launch. By focusing on key opportunities, strengthening recruitment, onboarding, and training, and leveraging our experience in industries like transmission, aviation, defence, and water, I look forward to further enhancing our ability to deliver for our clients and become a major partner and investor across a number of industries in the UK.”
Roberts has worked for Burns & McDonnell for 20 years, beginning his career as a civil engineer in the aviation and federal markets, and eventually moving into project management, resource management, and business director roles. His experience includes campus and airport master planning, site development, and civil and site engineering design of pavements, utilities, and drainage elements.
Roberts has been recognised for his significant contributions to the civil engineering industry, including being named a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), an honour that highlights outstanding achievements and dedication to the profession.
From 2022, Roberts served as the international programs director for Burns & McDonnell’s Commercial Aviation and Defence sectors, leading them to a strong recovery after the pandemic. His international experience includes projects in more than 20 countries, including much of the Middle East, Europe, and the UK.
Leslie M. Duke, chair and CEO at Burns & McDonnell, said: “Kyle will lead a great team of talented individuals in the U.K., and I’m excited about what is ahead for us there. Kyle demonstrates commitment to his clients and tackles every project he manages with unwavering perseverance. His creativity, vision and experience will help us grow and continue to create value for our customers.”
